Health Claims - Harvard Study Shows Oatmeal Raises Cortisol, Insulin, Adrenaline

Here’s the recap: Harvard study. Overweight kids. What is the worst choice to feed your kid for breakfast?

👉quick answer: Straight Carbs, heavily processed.

👉Breakdown: 3 groups of overweight teenagers were fed each a different breakfast.

Group 1 oatmeal
Group 2 steel cut oatmeal
Group 3 omelette

After breakfast blood sugar, insulin, cortisol and hunger levels were tested.

The straight oatmeal group tested high in insulin, cortisol and adrenal activity. They wanted more food faster and ate 81% more than the other 2 groups.

The steel cut oatmeal group did only a smidge better —not worth celebrating over.

The omelette group were superior. 🏆
They were fuller longer, no insulin spiking was going on and they were craving more food.

Bottomline. Cereal, pancakes, bagels, waffles, oatmeal… these cheap foods that are heavily processed don’t help our children nor ourselves to be strong or maintain a balanced weight.

(Shakes I feel the same way about, btw).

🍃Our kids need complex proteins with full amino acids. If you’re vegan, you are going to need to rely on beans, legumes and black rice (ideally over white) to get complete essential amino acids. Cheese is not a win.
